The Avaya Phone System is a well-made phone system even if you're using the Avaya 18D Phone or the Avaya 1416 Phone you are running great communications. However, as a phone system ages, it can experience issues with components that can cause static.
Avaya Phone System Repair
Static on Avaya Phone
If you have just static on the Avaya Phone it may be localized to the single Avaya Phone on your desk rather then the entire Avaya Phone System. So your first step should be to check each phone connected to the Avaya Phone System to determine if the static is on just one Avaya Phone or multiple Avaya Phones. If it is the single Avaya Phone it may be the Handset coil cord. To determine this you can play with the cord on a call to see if it gets better or worse as well as swap it out with another cord from another phone. It may also be the "Handset" itself so you can do the same with the handset.
Static on the Avaya Phone System
If the static is on the entire or most of the system then it can be a component that is part of the Avaya Phone System such as a capacitor or a bad port on the system. This likely means you need to locate an Avaya Support and Avaya Repair Provider who can assist you with troubleshooting the Avaya Phone System with static on a call. One of those providers is Telcom PBX a Phone System Repair provider, who also has written an article about Static on an Avaya Phone System.
When the Static is not on the Phone System?
On some carriers like Windstream, they deliver the calls over an older 25-pair cable which can be subject to weather conditions, and of course, at this point, the older wiring is aging. You may have also had a surge internally or a technician working around your phone wiring may have inadvertently caused a short or hum in the line. The Avaya Phone System is very well made and it was designed to last but you still will need Avaya maintenance.
